Developing
your grooming business
We are often asked to estimate potential earnings for a Canine Beautician operating a dog grooming business. This is almost impossible to do as it requires far more in-depth information about your geography, potential customers, competitors, local pricing levels, types of breeds, overheads, etc., etc. As a qualified Canine Beautician it is important that you structure your service to provide a quality of service to your customers and not compromise your skills (or your customers expectations) by providing quantity at the cost of quality. There are additional benefits if your intentions are to work as a self-employed dog groomer. You will be able to regulate your hours to accommodate your personal needs. Maybe even change your working times to suit yours, and your customers, requirements (eg. Working certain evenings instead of some day times, or working some weekends instead of weekdays, etc.). You will find that the quality of your work, coupled with your customer approach, will be an excellent advertisement for you in itself, this should bring you additional customers by word-of-mouth. As a general guide, we can give you an indication that the price of grooming dogs of various breeds today falls between aprox. £20 and £60 per dog. Most dogs will have an expected return to the salon every 6 to 8 weeks. Initially, we believe that your will be able to handle about three dogs per day, however this will increase as your skills, speed and confidence grow. The number of dogs that you can groom each day will grow as your experience grows, to a point where you may average 5 – 8 dogs each day, depending on the requirements of each one. If you have any questions or concerns that are not answered in our information, we will be happy to discuss these with you, don’t hesitate to pick up the phone and give us a call.
