Fir Tree Dog Grooming Academy, Manchester. Basic Dog Grooming Skills Course

THE FIRTREE GROOMING ACADEMY BASIC GROOMING COURSE

Each course consists of 3 days (based during Monday – Friday) tuition and practical training.  In the unlikely event that any day is missed or disrupted due to our fault, students will be offered the option to receive tuition on the Saturday following the course.  We restrict each course to a small number of students, as we want you to have the best possible personal tuition.  Our student numbers for each course are generally restricted to a maximum of six people.  A course schedule will be provided to all students prior to commencement.

We have a wide variety of major breeds on our data-base, which require professional grooming skills and students will be handling and grooming these dogs at some point during the course.  We are aware that this course is attractive to those who wish to groom the dog(s) that they own, therefore we are happy to accommodate your own dog(s) for grooming during the course – on which days you will be invited to bring him/her (them?) along with you.  We have a very strong belief that students must understand the theory as well as the practice of grooming, so your course will include some theory as well as practical tuition.  For example, it is imperative that anyone who is grooming a dog knows the confirmation (general skeleton) and knows how to recognise skin conditions, along with the various grooming tools and their correct use and maintenance.

The course will include familiarisation in handling the dogs (not all sweet tempered and co-operative!), bathing, grooming, drying, etc.  As well as a basic introduction to using the clippers and correct grooming tools.  Students will be taught ear inspections and cleaning, training on recognising ear infections and problems as well as correct nail trimming and finishing.

You are welcome to use our own grooming equipment on this course. However, we imagine some students are likely to be in possession of their own grooming equipment (including grooming clippers) and we are happy for you to bring this along should you wish to do so. We will advise all students on the equipment that they will need to bring with them. If you need to purchase any equipment, we will be happy to provide supplier details should you need it (some of whom we have preferential terms agreed with for our students).

Our course is structured to give you an ability to groom a dog to a good standard and we don’t compromise our standards or content.  If you are intending to groom for exhibition, it will be beneficial to let us know this, and the breed concerned, as early as possible before you attend the course.  We will always be here as a help and advisory service for you and if ‘junior’ or you are having any grooming problems, we’ll be happy to help or advise.
