THE
FIRTREE GROOMING ACADEMY ENHANCED SKILLS/REFRESHER COURSE
This
enhanced grooming skills course is designed for those who already have some experience of dog grooming.
It should be of interest to those who already have knowledge of the
basics and of equipment handling, possibly already working as employed in
the grooming industry, and who want to improve and enhance their skills.
It is an ideal course for those who have need of a refresher course
in the grooming industry, perhaps those wishing to return after a
prolonged break or those who feel a need to refresh and improve their existing skills. This
course consists of five days (Mon – Friday, over one week) tuition and
practical training. We
restrict each course to a small number of students, as we want you to have
the best possible personal tuition. Unless
you are a group requiring training together (in which case we will
structure a specific course just for your group), our student numbers for
each two week course are generally restricted to a maximum of four people.
In the unlikely event that any day is missed or disrupted due to
our fault, students will be offered the option to receive tuition on one
of the Saturdays during the course. A
course schedule will be provided to all students prior to commencement. We
have a wide variety of major breeds on our data-base, which require
professional grooming skills and students will be handling and grooming
these dogs throughout the course. However, if you have a need
to include instruction in a specific breed please let us know.
We
have a very strong belief that students must understand the theory as well
as the practice of grooming, so your course will include theory as well as
practical tuition. For example, it is imperative that a professional Canine
Beautician knows the confirmation (general skeleton) of a dog and knows
how to recognise skin conditions, along with the various grooming tools
and their correct use and maintenance. The
initial stages of the course will include a light refresher in handling
the dogs, bathing, grooming, drying, etc.
It is assumed that students attending this course will already have
the basic skills and so this part of the content will be minimal.
Additionally, it is assumed that attendees on this course will
already have the basic skills and knowledge in handling and correct use of
the grooming and salon equipment and so the tuition in this respect will
be based on this knowledge. If
you believe that you DO NOT possess the basics needed to commence your
course from this point, then you need to make us aware of this at the
earliest possible time, as this could have a detrimental effect on your
ability to gain from this course. Students
will be taught ear inspections and cleaning, training on recognising ear
infections and problems as well as correct nail trimming and finishing. You will be covering in more depth both the theory and
practical application of various breeds of dog grooming and Canine Beauty skills.
You will receive
some tuition from breed-specific experts in the confirmation, correct
trims and breed-related conditions in selected breeds that require regular
grooming - along with general tuition and experience on a wider range
of breeds. You
are welcome to use our own grooming equipment on this course.
However, we imagine all students are likely to be in possession of their own
grooming equipment (including
grooming clippers) and we are happy for you to bring this along should you
wish to do so.
We will advise all students on the equipment that they will need to
bring with them. If you need
to purchase any equipment, we will be happy to provide supplier details
should you need it (some of whom we have preferential terms agreed with
for our students). This course is structured to give you an enhancement of your existing grooming skills across a range of groomed breeds. We cannot guarantee inclusion of any specific breed, but if you have a particular wish to be taught on a specific breed please let us know at the earliest possible time and we will endeavour to include it. Former students from any of our courses always have the facility to use us as a help and advisory service throughout the rest of their grooming career.
